Between the ages of 17-25 the last 4 teeth appear in your mouth. Modern diets have rendered them less useful and usually problematic. They are prone to disease, often becoming impacted. Since about 85% of wisdom teeth eventually become candidates for removal, Red Rock OMSC wants you to know, we’re ready to help. Dr. Mark Degen is your qualified oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Most wisdom tooth extractions are performed in the oral and maxillofacial surgery office under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Our procedures allow pain free removal of wisdom teeth or other procedure. Your oral and maxillofacial surgeon will discuss the anesthetic option that is right for you.

Sometimes, wisdom teeth become impacted. Though it isn’t usually serious, it can become uncomfortable. The preventive approach is to remove them before they become problematic.

The most important thing is not to worry. Extraction of wisdom teeth has proven to be safe and for the most part, pain free. There is a minimal amount swelling and discomfort immediately after most procedures. Red Rock OMSC walks patients through the simple steps that help minimize any discomfort.

What Happens after Surgery?

Following surgery, you may experience some swelling and mild discomfort-this is part of the normal healing process. Cold compresses may help decrease the swelling, and medication prescribed by your Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon can help manage the discomfort.

You may be instructed to modify your diet following surgery and later progress to more normal foods.
