Botox for Underarm Sweating

Botox injections for underarm sweating is a simple, quick, non-surgical physician administered treatment that can temporarily stop or reduce severe underarm sweating for 6-9 months.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved BOTOX for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) in patients unable to obtain relief using antiperspirants on July 19, 2004. BOTOX injections offer a minimally invasive treatment option and should be repeated as necessary to control symptoms. It is quite safe and yields predictable improvement for at least 6-9 months.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive and uncontrollable sweating beyond that required for regulation of the body temperature. Primary hyperhidrosis is estimated at around 1% of the population, afflicting men and women equally. That number, however, does not reflect the true number of cases since the condition is not always diagnosed.

A common complaint of patients is that they get nervous because they sweat, then sweat more because they are nervous. Other factors can play a role; certain foods & drinks, nicotine, caffeine, and smells can trigger a response.

Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don't receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops for 6-9 months and sometimes longer, and helps you regain a normal life, free of the stress and anxiety associated with excessive sweating.
